Services: Habitat Creation and Enhancement

Lindsay Carrington Ecological Services has a wide range of expertise in the field of habitat creation, restoration and management.  The company has been built on the strength of Lindsay Carrington’s doctorate research into grassland creation on decommissioned landfill sites; consequently, we can offer specialist advice on flower-rich grassland creation and habitat creation on brownfield or reinstated sites.

In some situations, creation of new habitat or enhancement of habitat is required as compensation for development.  We utilise an approach of ecological masterplanning for large developments aimed at providing a strategic overview of mitigation and enhancement measures.  Detailed objectives and specifications are then set out within Ecological Management Plans and we have considerable experience of management planning for grassland, wetland, heathland, hedgerow and woodland habitats.

We are also able to offer services towards restoring and enhancing habitat on designated sites for nature conservation.  We base our Conservation Management Plans on thorough and detailed survey work and also a sound understanding of the management techniques that work on the ground.  Recently, the company surveyed and wrote management plans for all 50 Protected Road Verges in Wiltshire.

We believe the essential key to successful habitat creation and restoration is regular monitoring and this is built into all of our projects.

Please see Project Examples for details of our experience in habitat creation, restoration and management.
